These must be distributed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum 18 units of graduate level coursework at SDSU<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum 24 units of graduate level coursework at UCI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum 24 units of Research, Practicum, Dissertation and Graduate Seminar at either<br>institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>B) Course requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Required: attendance at Summer Research Survey, to become familiar with faculty<br>research programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Required: A faculty advisor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Residency at SDSU<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first year of the program, students take classes at SDSU to complete the SDSU residency. For a full list of classes and requirements, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/ackerman.sdsu.edu\/computational\/student-handbook\/program-of-study\/residency-at-uci\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"16301\">Residency at UCI<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Annual Research Survey<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An annual seminar\/workshop will feature the participating faculty members presenting their current<br>research and possible projects. Attendance is mandatory for all incoming students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Report Examination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The student is expected to pass the Research Report Exam <strong>within 3 years of admittance<\/strong>. For more information, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/ackerman.sdsu.edu\/computational\/student-handbook\/program-of-study\/research-report-examination\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"16309\">Research Report Examination<\/a> page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practicum and Doctoral Research<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dissertation research will be carried out at either UCI or SDSU, or at an industry or national laboratory<br>under the supervision of the Doctoral Advisor. While conducting dissertation research, students must<br>enroll in the appropriate research units at the campus of the Doctoral Advisor. If research is done outside<br>of UCI or SDSU, students should register in-absentia if appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dissertation Proposal\/Advancement to Candidacy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must submit a Dissertation Proposal to the Doctoral Committee <strong>by the end of their third year<br>in the program<\/strong>.
